Project Progress and Roadmap
SONA (Shantikunj of North America) was conceptualized in 2001, the Vision was to bring all members of the USA and Canada, and explore the possibilities of what we can do collectively
In alignment with Gurudev’s vision of simple living, high thinking, and harmony with nature, the groundwork for establishing a renewable energy hub through Solar and Windmill farms commenced in 2025. This green energy project is set to make the campus largely self-sustainable, reduce carbon footprint, and stand as a model for ecological balance and sustainable living. Once complete, the Solar and Windmill Farm will power significant portions of the property, inspiring visitors to embrace eco-friendly solutions in their own lives.
The long-awaited construction of the Prakhar Pragya Srajal Shraddha reached full completion in 2025. This landmark facility stands as a symbol of spiritual awakening, collective dedication, and the embodiment of Gurudev’s vision for spreading the light of knowledge (Pragya) and devotion (Shraddha). It will serve as a hub for workshops, meditation sessions, and community gatherings, fostering an environment of spiritual growth, character building, and spiritual upliftment.
A major environmental and seva-driven initiative was accomplished with the successful cleaning and rejuvenation of nearly 65 acres of land within the Shantikunj of North America campus region. This effort not only beautified the surroundings but also revived natural ecosystems, created more usable space for community programs, and embodied AWGP’s mission of combining spirituality with ecological responsibility. Volunteers and parijans participated in this campaign, making it a true collective effort of love and devotion.
Auspicious Visit and 11-Kundi Yagya: We were blessed with the presence of esteemed guests, Nainaben Patel Ji and Dr. Ravibhai Patel Ji. Their visit culminated in a powerful 11-Kundi Gayatri Yagya, performed in collaboration with a dedicated team of medical professionals from Bakersfield, CA. This unique convergence of spiritual practice and scientific thought beautifully embodied Gurudev's principle of harmonizing science and spirituality for the betterment of humanity. The Yagya served to purify the environment and sanctify the land for the noble activities planned ahead.
Bhoomi Pujan for the Yagya Shala: Led by Nainaben Patel and Dr. Ravibhai Patel, the sacred Bhoomi Pujan (ground-breaking ceremony) for the future Yagya Shala was successfully completed. This ceremony consecrated the ground for what will become the spiritual heart of our center—a dedicated space for performing Yagyas to foster individual and collective well-being.
In the presence of medical professionals and scientists, we have been able to demonstrate a holistic approach to sustainable cultivation at the Shantikunj of North America center. This is based on a system we refer to as Vedic Regenerative Agriculture, which is a farming approach focused on restoring and enhancing soil health.
Here is an overview of the practices we have implemented:
Minimizing Soil Disturbance and Keeping it Organic: We apply practices that reduce the need for heavy tillage and machinery, which is a core tenet of regenerative and organic farming. We avoid the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, instead focusing on natural methods to improve soil quality and manage pests.
Promoting Diversity: We utilize polyculture, which is the practice of growing multiple crops simultaneously in the same area. We also incorporate
agroforestry, a method of integrating trees and shrubs into agricultural systems. This focus on diversity helps improve soil conservation and provides a habitat for beneficial organisms. These efforts align with the broaderVriksha Ganga Abhiyan(Tree Planting Campaign), which has seen millions of trees planted across various regions.Keeping the Soil Covered: We plant
cover crops, such as rye or clover, after harvesting a main crop. These plants are crucial for suppressing weeds, controlling erosion, and improving the soil's nutrient content and overall quality.Incorporating Livestock: We use
rotational grazing, which involves moving animals to different pastures. This method provides high-quality forage for the animals while preventing manure buildup in one area, thereby benefiting the soil.Integrating
Yagya(Sacrificial Fire): A unique element of our Vedic approach is the use ofYagya, a fire ritual that involves offering herbal preparations into a sacred fire. This ancient practice is believed to purify the atmosphere and can enrich the soil, leading to crops with higher nutritive value. Research on the impact ofYagyaon environmental sustainability and atmospheric pollution is conducted at our Brahmavarchas Shodh Sansthan research center, which works to synthesize ancient wisdom with modern scientific techniques.
Several crucial infrastructure projects were completed this year, creating the backbone for the center's long-term vision.
Establishment of a Gaushala (Cow Sanctuary): Embodying the Vedic principle of Gau Seva (service to the cow), 24 acres of land were formally dedicated to establishing a Gaushala. To ensure the safety and well-being of the sacred cows who will reside here, comprehensive fencing of the entire area was completed. This sanctuary will be a place of compassion and a source of pure, cruelty-free dairy for the ashram community.
Water Self-Sufficiency Project: A major step was taken to secure our water resources with the installation of three water tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 gallons. This 15,000-gallon reservoir is critical for irrigating our new agricultural projects and supporting the overall needs of our growing center, ensuring resilience and sustainability.
Land Preparation for Farming Activities: The journey towards creating a thriving farm began with the essential work of clearing and preparing the designated agricultural land. This foundational step was meticulously planned to initiate our farming activities, transforming the terrain into a productive space ready to be cultivated in harmony with nature.
We were immensely blessed to have Dr. Chinmay Pandya (Pro-Vice Chancellor, DSVV) and Ad. Shefali Jiji preside over the sacred Pran Pratishtha ceremony. This paramount Vedic ritual involves the infusion of divine life force (Prana) into the murtis (sacred images), transforming them into living embodiments of the divine. With his own hands, Dr. Pandya consecrated the images of our revered founders, Param Pujya Gurudev Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya and Vandaniya Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma. This historic event spiritually established the center as a true powerhouse of Gurudev's wisdom and Mataji's compassion, creating a focal point of devotion for generations to come.
In a ceremony filled with reverence and love, the center's Gaushala (cow sanctuary) was formally inaugurated and named by the head of the global Gayatri Pariwar, Adarniya Dr. Chinmay Pandya, and Shraddheya Shefali Jiji ("Adarniya Bhaiyya and Didi"). They lovingly named it the Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma Gaushala, dedicating this noble mission of Gau Seva (selfless service to cows) to the boundless nurturing spirit of the Divine Mother of our Pariwar. This act cemented our commitment to the Vedic principle of compassion for all living beings. Today, this sanctuary is a thriving, peaceful home to 42 cows and calves, who are cared for with utmost devotion.
In line with Gurudev’s principle of Swavalamban (self-reliance), major infrastructure work was completed to secure the most vital natural resource for our community.
Securing Water Resources for All Activities: Significant foresight was applied to our water infrastructure with the preparation of two high-capacity water wells. The first well was strategically developed to serve the SONA (Shantikunj of North America) building, ensuring a consistent water supply for all future residents, devotees, and community activities. The second well was specifically dedicated to supporting the Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma Gaushala and our future large-scale farm irrigation needs. This critical project guarantees that our compassionate service and sustainable agriculture initiatives will have the life-giving water they need to flourish for years to come.
A haven of compassion was realized across 24 acres of land, dedicated as a profound sanctuary for the beloved Gir Cows. The construction featured two spacious 100x100 ft cowsheds for ample shelter and two 60x60 ft barns to store bountiful food and supplies. To provide for their every need, a deep water well was dug and large tanks were installed, guaranteeing a continuous flow of life-giving water. Today, this testament to reverence is home to a flourishing family of around 30 cows, who grow happily, blessing the land and and to us with their peaceful divine presence.
Invoking the spiritual legacy of Prakhar Pragya & Sajal Shraddha—the eternal abode where the celestial consciousness of the Revered Gurusatta resides—a renewed vow was made to the land. The sacred Pujan was performed by Shantikunj Pramukh Atithi, Adarniy Jayram Motlani Ji. This ceremony expanded the original vision, reaffirming a sacred trust with the earth, blessed by the divine grace that emanates from the Rishiyugm's hallowed Charan Peeths.
In a tremendous feat of engineering and determination, a five-mile road was constructed to provide access to the heart of the property. This was more than just a construction project; it was a vital act of "paving the way" for the thousands of devotees, seekers, and volunteers who will journey to this center for spiritual rejuvenation. The project was initiated on the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami (a festival celebrating knowledge and new beginnings) and completed around the sacred time of Navratri (a nine-night festival of the Divine Mother), infusing this foundational work with deep spiritual significance.
Demonstrating that the mission of selfless service transcends physical infrastructure, our commitment to Gau Seva was active even before the main facilities were built. A temporary Gaushala in Santa Rosa was opened for public visits, allowing the community to connect with the sacred cows and participate in the mission. This initiative showcased the Pariwar's unwavering dedication and served as a beautiful prelude to the establishment of the permanent Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma Gaushala.
